The Crusades – Impetus for the Crusades

This series examines the causes, events and legacy of the Crusades: the attempt of a barbaric group to violently establish a new state in the name of God. These events still influence Muslim attitudes toward the West and current world politics.

This session, the first of four this month, will be on the Impetus for the Crusades: cultural conditions and Papal control of Christian activity. Our presenter and discussion leader, Michael Bryant, holds a Master’s degree in Medieval history, is a Management and Program Analyst at U.S. Department of Education and remains an avid historian.
